Abuelos de Texas<\/strong> exists to tell the long overlooked, overwritten, and untold stories of True Texas history \u2014 honoring the Spanish, Tejano, Indigenous Native Indians, and American-Mexican families who shaped this land & culture of Texas. We preserve the legacy of our ancestors and restore Texas history to its truth.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manuel Crecensio Rejoin, 1848 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After signing the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848 and declared end to the Mexican-American War, Mexican government cabinet member Manuel prophesied these words, he died the following year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

When I was a child visiting the Alamo it was difficult to find Gregorios recognition or any mention of the Tejano Defenders. Thanks to Delfina we eventually did find it after hours of searching. We were thought Gregorios story and it made me wonder why two brothers would be fighting against each other in the battle. I like all children should be thought the truth in school – not the narratives & myths we have overwritten<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

My second trip to the Alamo, the first in 2002 when I was 6 years old. This photo is 2004 when I was 8 years old. My family took annual trips to San Antonio to stay in the hill country<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

I grew up like most Texans \u2014 cowboy hats, Blue Bell ice cream, and rodeos on my dad\u2019s farm. But what shaped me most was being raised in my grandmother\u2019s Hispanic household, where I learned the rich heritage I was born into and grew up loving and cherishing the beautiful culture of Mexico <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

She was not only my grandma but my childhood mom, the woman who raised me and built the foundation of who I am today. She raised me while my single mom worked 14 hr days at the hospital to build a future for us kiddos for our family.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
